The question most patients want to ask, answered before you have to
People rarely ask a dentist how the instruments were cleaned. They wonder, and then they say nothing. So here is exactly what happens at both our clinics. If you would like to see any of it for yourself, just ask. We would far rather you asked than wondered.

Fully disposable kits, if you would prefer one
Some patients would simply rather everything that touches them came out of a sealed packet, whether that is because they are immunocompromised, undergoing treatment that affects their immune system, pregnant, or just more comfortable that way. That is a completely reasonable thing to want, and you do not need to explain yourself.
Tell us when you book and we will set out a fully disposable kit for your appointment. Our routine sterilisation already meets the standard on its own. This is for peace of mind, and peace of mind is worth having.

What happens between one patient and the next
Four steps, every time, for every patient, not just when someone is watching.
- 01
Instruments are cleaned before they are sterilised
Used instruments are scrubbed and ultrasonically cleaned first. Sterilisation cannot work through debris, so this step is not optional. It is what makes the autoclave effective.
- 02
Autoclaved under steam pressure
Cleaned instruments are pouched and run through an autoclave, which uses pressurised steam to destroy bacteria, viruses and spores. Pouches stay sealed until they are opened in front of you.
- 03
Single-use items are never reused
Needles, blades, suction tips, gloves, bibs and cups are used once and discarded. There is no version of this where they are cleaned and used again.
- 04
Surfaces are disinfected between every patient
The chair, light handles, bracket table and any surface touched during treatment are disinfected before the next patient sits down.
In-house specialists
Specialist work stays in the building
Most general practices refer these cases elsewhere. We do not need to, which means less waiting, one set of records, and one team accountable for the result.
Endodontists
Root canal specialists
Root canal work is done by a specialist rather than referred elsewhere. That matters most for the difficult cases: curved or blocked canals, molars, and re-treatment of root canals that have failed before.

Braces and alignment specialists
Braces, aligners and bite correction are planned and fitted by a specialist orthodontist, for children and adults alike, rather than handled as a sideline.
About this treatment →Equipment
Modern kit, kept current
Equipment has been upgraded steadily across 23 years of practice. Digital imaging means a lower radiation dose and a picture we can show you on screen while we explain what we are looking at.
A full equipment list (imaging, chairs, sterilisation units and the implant and orthodontic systems we work with) is being prepared with the exact makes and models. Patients increasingly want to know which implant system or which ceramic is going into their mouth, and that is a fair question, so it deserves a precise answer rather than a vague one.
Come and see it for yourself
Ask at reception and we will walk you through the sterilisation area. No appointment needed to look.
